UX design and writing

A quick summary of my background

I have 10 years experience in designing, testing and improving user interactions, journeys and experiences.

This was gained working for Standard Life, Standard Life Aberdeen, and Phoenix on the Standard Life brand.

I worked in the customer channel before becoming channel lead.

I then moved over to become channel lead for the workplace channel . This work was mainly on their B2B pension admin platforms, and member benefits platforms.

I’m NNG accredited, with a focus on Behavioural insights and designing for complex domains.

I also have Interaction Design Foundation certifications in Accessibility, User testing, Human-centred design and Gestalt perception.

What I do

Discovery and ideation techniques

Things like empathy mapping, journey mapping, service blueprinting, prioritisation plotting, and pain points analysis

User research

Including unmoderated, prototype-based testing, moderated remote testing, and in person interviews.

I speak to business users from Small to Medium enterprises, Large Enterprise client companies and end users of financial products and staff benefits.

Accessibility auditing

Making sure your website or platform works as well as it can for people with physical, mental, or situational limitations.

Creation of contextual help videos

Including screen capture, scripting, AI voiceover generation, live voiceover performance, and editing.

UX content writing

Championing Plain English, a conversational tone of voice, clear signposting and action-oriented microcopy.

Creating digital writing guidelines and jargon busters

Lean UX development and Agile methodology

I’ve experience with working in most Agile styles, embedded in squads, or as part of centralised resource. Also waterfall - because sometimes, you just need to.

Other relevant experience

11 years as an Information designer, working on letters, statements and pdfs for pensions and bonds.

This involved:

writing the full logic documents to hand off to developers

creating properly structured layouts in Indesign

writing in the correct tone of voice, translating complex concepts and jargon into conversational Plain English

2 years as an Open Learning writer and Tutor. Creating and delivering an Oxford Cambridge Review accredited Open learning course on Pension and Annuities with Tax.
